Students of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology – HCMC University of Industry and Trade excellently won the First prize of the 25th Euréka Student Research Award 2023

On the morning of November 26, 2023, the Closing Ceremony for awarding the 25th Scientific Research Student Award - Euréka 2023 took place at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University. The Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FST) - Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT) won the first prize in the Food Technology sector and three consolation prizes in other sectors. This marks the second consecutive year that students of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade have been honored with the First Prize in the Food Technology sector at the Euréka Student Scientific Research Award.

The first prize in the Euréka 2023 scientific research student competition in the Food Technology sector was awarded to the project titled "Research on the acquisition and determination of biological activities of extracts from flowers and fruits of Musa balbisiana banana tree” by the student research group:

  • Nguyen Quang Liem
  • Dinh Khanh Dieu
  • Nguyen Huynh Tram
  • Luu Thi Quynh Hoa
  • Le Thi Thanh Ngan

The research project's results were highly appreciated by the Scientific Council in the Food Technology sector due to its novelty, creativity, and practical significance. The research proposes the possibility of utilizing and exploiting the full potential of agricultural products, such as Musa balbisiana’s flower and fruit, to enhance the quality of banana products and simultaneously improve consumer health.

In addition to the prestigious First Prize, students of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology were also honored with three Consolation Prizes in the following sectors:

  • Food Technology sector: Project titled "Research on the process of obtaining and appreciating the biological activity of fucoxanthin and lipid from the seaweed Sargassum Oligocystum" - Academic advisor: MSc. Hoang Thi Ngoc Nhon

  • Chemistry sector: Project titled "Research on the process of analyzing the authenticity of milk fat by using the combined HPLC and Chemometric method" - Academic advisor: Dr. Nguyen Van Anh

  • Agriculture sector: Project titled "Research on obtaining low-sodium salt substitutes from squid shells" -  Academic advisor: Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong

All of the above-mentioned projects are creative and have a high practical application value, serving as a foundation for future exploration and development to increase nutritional value and improve food quality to ensure consumer health.

The 25th Euréka Scientific Research Student Award - 2023 concluded with a grand award ceremony, praising the young minds passionate about scientific research, and knowledge discovery, and inspiring the younger generation nationwide. This constant passion for science is an everlasting source of motivation.

We sincerely congratulate the teams from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology for their outstanding performance, confidence in competition, and the glorious success achieved on a national scientific research stage. This result is a valuable source of energy, inspiring future generations of undergraduates from the faculty to put in more effort, strive harder, and continue to enroll in the Euréka roll of honor in the coming seasons.
