Excellent achievements of students from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology - Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade in the “Post-harvest Processing Technology Competition 2023”

On the morning of December 2nd, 2023, at Hall C - Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT), the Semi-final and Final rounds of the Post-Harvest Processing Technology Competition 2023 were conducted, featuring practical and applicable topics aimed at enhancing the value of Vietnamese agricultural products.

 

Competing against and surpassing 53 other teams, alongside more than 200 outstanding students from 9 universities in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces, the students of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FST) at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade have left a strong impression on the Judging Panel. As a result, they were honored to receive high achievements for the university delegation. Among them, the students of FST outstandingly achieved 01 First Prize, 01 Second Prize, and 02 Consolation Prizes, these awards not only bring immense morale to the FST but also contribute to affirming the university's practical application-oriented direction.

 

Over time, the intense competition of the competition was further heightened, starting from the product exhibition accompanied by the introduction through posters of the 35 projects evaluated as the best to advance to the Semi-final round. Following that, the Judging Panel would selectively filter out 3 to 5 outstanding projects out of 35 from each category to advance to the Final round. Research teams in this stage would participate in direct rebuttals in front of the Judging Panel to defend their projects for top rankings, including the First and Second Prizes in the Post-Harvest Processing Technology Competition 2023.

 

Congratulations to the students and academic advisors of the FST for achieving good results in the competition:

  • 1st Prize: Project titled "Chitosan preparation assisted by DES solvent and ultrasound" by the student team: Huyen Le Thanh Ngan, Nguyen Duong Thien Tu, Tran Thi Thuy An, Dang Huynh Anh, under the supervision of MSc. Tran Chi Hai
  • 2nd Prize: Project titled "Establishing the process of producing starch powder from Bo Chinh Ginseng" led by the student team: Vu Thi Thu Hien, Le Ngoc Hien, Tieu Trong Tin, under the supervision of MSc. Tran Chi Hai
  • Two Consolation Prizes were awarded to the following projects:
  • "Enrichment of resistant starch from jackfruit seeds and its application in biscotti production," carried out by the research team: Nguyen Hoang Tuan, Dao Van Thai Kiet under the supervision of MSc. Vu Thi Huong, MSc. Pham Thi Thuy Duong, and MSc. Pham Thi My Tien.
  • "Prebiotic rice cakes - A product line rich in resistant starch," conducted by the research team: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tu, Ngo Duy Khanh, Nguyen Thi Cam Xuyen, Le Thi Thao Ngan, Pham Thi Kieu Oanh, under the supervision of MSc. Nguyen Hoang Anh.

The "Post-Harvest Processing Technology" competition is organized anually for students to develop their potential for exploration and research. It aims to introduce and exhibit research projects and new ideas with high practical applicability in the field of post-harvest processing technology. This includes applications in grain and food processing technology, testing technology, preservation techniques, etc. Furthermore, the competition explores initiatives to support the branding and development of the agricultural and food industry in the city, rural areas, and even extend to international markets. Additionally, the competition provides a platform for exchange, sharing, and learning experiences. It seeks innovative ideas and breakthrough products that can be applied to solve existing issues in the agricultural and food industry.

 

Finally, congratulations to the research teams and academic advisors who achieved the best awards in this year's Post-Harvest Processing Technology Competition. With these valuable achievements, our Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade is one step closer to the innovative and entrepreneurial journey, as well as research with practical applications. Wishing all esteemed teachers, along with our students, good health, and looking forward to meeting again in the next Post-Harvest Processing Technology Competition in 2024.
